Well our season ended Saturday afternoon at Pennington Field, with the Mart Panthers winning the state championship 40 - 7 over the Yellowjackets.  They really played a great game and deserve a lot of credit for doing to us what we have done to other teams all season.  But regardless of the outcome I am very proud of our players and coaches.  This team has had a great year, going 10 - 0 to win the district, and then beating Holliday, Pilot Point, Paul Pewitt and Canadian to make it to the championship game.  That is an accomplishment that most teams across the state would love to have.  The seniors on the Yellowjackets had a great run these last 2 years, as all of us parents knew they would. In 2 years they won 26 football games, and lost only 3.  From the time they were just little boys strapping on a helmet, and beating everybody in sight, there was something very special about them.  They did not let us down. Winning the ring would have been great for them, but the class and talent they showed us throughout the season makes them all winners in my book.  I am so proud of you guys, it just can't be put into words. Congratulations.

I want to thank all the coaches for the hours and hours of time they spent working with the guys. Without your time and effort none of this would have been possible.  You all showed total class throughout all the games that we could have run the score up to 100 to 0.  You are a great asset to the Boyd Football program, congratulations.

And to the fans, what can I say, YOU ARE THE BEST FANS IN TEXAS, period !!!  It was great setting in the stands and watching our team play.   The Boyd fans have withstood cold, rain, lightning storms, and a barrage of attacks from other schools fans trying to break our spirit. Well, it never happened.  Our fans stood tall, throughout it all, supporting our guys and standing for them whenever, and no matter what happened. Congratulations to you all.

It would be easy to say Mart didn't deserve to win that game, or try to make up some excuses for what happened.   I can't do that, and I believe I speak for the majority of us Boyd fans when I congratulate them on their season, ending up 15 - 0 and the #1 ranked team in the state.  And they have a great program with great athletes to continue their winning ways well into the future. Congratulations Mart.

I look forward to next season.  We are returning a lot of talent, and players that know how to win.  If the coaching staff remains in place, I think we will be right back in it next year.

This season, and this team will live on

in our memories forever.   And those

trophies will remind us constantly of the

Great Boyd Yellowjacket Team of 1999.
